Hello! Our new word of the day is “dorádo”, which means ‘dolphin’.
When used in discussions of astronomy “dorádo” also means a constellation found
in the Southern Hemisphere near Reticulum and Pictor, containing a great
portion of the large Magellanic Cloud.
The word is a noun and is spelled d – o – r – a – d – o. The
accent is on the ‘a’ in the second syllable. The word is derived from the Late
Latin word ‘deaur tus’ for gilding.
As an adjective it means ‘golden’, or
‘gilding’. “Dorár is the transitive verb for ‘to gild’.
